Have you ever wondered how and where the clothes that you own were made to be worn by you today or how the products that you own were able to end up being bought by you? The simplest, most evident answer is the existence of sweatshops that has its origin between 1830 and 1850. Sweatshops have been a factor in the production of goods around the world for centuries and are still existent today.

The creation of these sweatshops were an easier way for companies to gain profit by driving down the cost of production. To minimize the costs, companies aim for places that lack in the humans rights protection and the have the lowest wages. It exists wherever there is an opportunity to exploit workers who lack the knowledge and resources to stand up for themselves. They are work environments that violates two or more labor laws. Employees are forced to work long hours for low pay in unsafe and unhealthy working conditions. The globalization of business has led increasing numbers of major corporations to take advantage of low-cost sweatshop labor in developing countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The worldview of sweatshops being advantageous or being cruel varies depending on the perspective that it is seen.

Pros of sweatshops: There are many arguments as to whether sweatshops are relevant or not. When the pros and cons are listed, they are almost equal on how the world is affected. Imagine the world without the existence of sweatshops, would the world have been able to become so developed as it is today or be nowhere near how the world has advanced. It is essential to know some of the benefits of sweatshops. Sweatshops have created opportunities for citizens to earn a living. Individuals look for employment to make a living in which they are given the chance to have a job. This allows employees to be able to provide for their families. Although very little is earned, it is enough for them to survive than starving without the chance to try to make a living. Consumers also gain from the creation of sweatshops. Consumer wants are provided in lower costs of the various products and services that are wanted. Great competition from factories is established that offer the quality of goods to be high as well. The result of lower prices is due to this competition, thereby benefiting consumers.
